Farhan Akhtar Shaadi Ke Side Effects Movie Review and Rating
Shaadi Ke Side Effects is a quirky and humourous take on issues faced in married life.
shadi -review-review

Story

Siddharth or Sid Roy (Farhan Akhtar) and Trisha Mallik (Vidya Balan) have been happily married for several years. Trouble begins when Trisha becomes pregnant and gives birth to a child. The doting mother ignores her marriage and Sid feels neglected, frustrated and insecure.

Sid's brother in-law (Ram Kapoor) gives him a piece of brotherly advise. Sid is to make space for himself and deal with problems by telling some white lies. So Sid, the husband, begins to live a double life. He is a family man for half the time and rest of the time Sid is (pretends) a single dude.
A lot of melodrama ensues after which the couple has to decide whether to continue with their relationship as husbands and wife or to fall apart to the 'side effects' of their marriage.

Analysis :

 shadi-review
The film is a thought-provoking take on husband-wife relationship in a warm and funny manner. The script has uneven edges, but Farhan and Vidya's sizzling onscreen chemistry sails the movie through. They look perfectly matched in the film.

Farhan's dialogue, “When I do something wrong, I say sorry to my wife. When my wife does something wrong…. I say sorry to my wife.” is thought provoking. It addresses the oldest question in a marriage on what women want. Do men and women want the same thing in a marriage.

The film is mainly shouldered by the lead cast who carry it off with elan. A lot of fine-tuning may have gone into the pre-production stage as Sid and Trisha look like the perfect couple. They don't look over-rehearsed and appear very much like a married couple.

The film's script has been written from Sid's point of view to draw maximum sympathy for the poor husband who has to deal with a nagging wife. Farhan and Vidya as an onscreen couple are lovely. You just can't take your eyes off the lead pair during the movie.

Performance :

Farhan Akhtar playes the role of a harried husband to perfection. He portrays the character of Sid, who is partly man party boy with elan. Vidya Balan plays her role better than she did in her earlier movies. She is perfect as the expectant mother, radiant with happiness. Later she plays her role as a paranoid mother and towards the end she depicts the role of a woman trying to get back her husband's attention with ease.
The side characters in the movie have been used only as a support system. Purab Kohli dons the role of the nosy neighbour while Vir Das playing Farhan’s character’s bachelor fantasies could have been used better.

Final Word:
Watch this film for Akhtar's acting that makes you laugh.

Alia Bhatt Highway Movie Review and Rating

It's not everyday that a Bollywood filmmaker, who has previously dished out a mixed bag of crowdpleasers like Socha Na Tha, Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal and Rockstar, braves a road less traveled, deviating from the diktats of commercial filmmaking, and doles out a cinematic journey that is starkly different to his previous films, in both concept and form. Yes, Imtiaz Ali trumps his critics with his latest venture 'Highway'. Garnished with lovely writing, beautiful landscape and two stellar leads, Ali's emotionally-charged 'Highway' is honest filmmaking at its best.

Story

Highway is a character-driven film in which Bhatt plays Veera Tripathi, daughter of an obscenely wealthy Delhi tycoon, who is abducted by a gang of goons led by Mahabir (Randeep Hooda), just days ahead of her weddding. As they travel across six states , Veera succumbs to Stockholm Syndrome and falls for her captor.

Analysis :

One thing that will catch your attention is how quiet the film is. Besides AR Rahman's compositions, the film lacks little to no background music. Even the most dramatic scenes are enacted against pin drop silence. For a commercially movie, 'Highway' is besotted with a wad of unconventional stuff.
The commercial elements are palpable only in the second half, but they don’t intrude into the story. Veera undergoes an inner transformation as she travels with Mahabir across deserts and mountains. Two lonely people discover each other and life amid Mr Rahman’s soothing background.

Performance :

After watching Alia's debut film, few expected her to ditch her diva avatar. In Highway, she not only dumps her glam facade, but also shocks you with both her range and dedication. She is perfect casting and it's difficult to think of another actress in the role. The resonances between Veera and Bhatt is palpable. And then, there is the honesty that helps Alia portray Veera’s internal journey as her own with utmost conviction.

Accolades to Hooda too for putting up such a brilliant, balanced performance His is one of those roles in which the character graph is a languid incline and there is little opportunity to truly cut loose. Hooda eschews all temptations to chew scenery and paces himself brilliantly.

Final Word:
Highway expresses Ali's lobe for storytelling and disdain for all kinds of artifice. Highway is Ali's most accomplished film so far. A must watch!
