Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar to receive Bharat Ratna today

Finally the momentous day has come for Indian cricketing legend, Sachin Tendulkar, to receive the the much-awaited, much-coveted highest civilian honor - the Bharat Ratna, today.
The master batsman will receive a sanad (certificate) signed by the President and a medallion from Indian President Pranab Mukherjee in a function at Rashtrapati Bhawan to be held in the national capital today.

Tendulkar (40), who decamped from international cricket on November 16, 2013, will be the first Indian sportsman to receive the country's highest civilian honor ever.

The big news was broadcasted by Rashtrapati Bhavan last year November, hours after Tendulkar played his 200th and farewell Test against the West Indies in Mumbai. Quite interestingly, the momentous decision to honor the batting maestro got underway on the first day of his farewell 200th cricket Test on November 14, 2013 and the announcement came two days later.

An official statement read as “Tendulkar has been a true Ambassador of India in the world of sports and his achievements in cricket are unparallelled, the records set by him unmatched, and the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by him exemplary.”

"That he has been honored with several awards is testimony to his extraordinary brilliance as a sportsman," it said, lauding the fact that Tendulkar has played cricket across the world and won laurels for the country during the 24 years of his glorious cricket career.

The Bharat Ratna medal that will be conferred to the little master today was made in 2000, the year he quit as captain of India. The India Government Mint in Kolkata has spruced up the medal, worth Rs 2 lakh, and sent it to the Ministry of Home Affairs last week.

Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award instituted in 1954 recognizes exceptional service or performance in any field of human endeavor.

Banned pacer S Sreesanth embarked into new innings of his life as he walked down the altar with royal Jaipur princess and fiance Bhuveneshwari aka Nayan at the Guruvayoor Sreekrishna temple in Thrissur, Kerala this morning. The reception will be held at Le Meridian hotel in his hometown Kochi in the evening.

The controversial Indian cricketer, who was banned by BCCI from all forms of the game post his infamous match-fixing scandal, revealed about his love affair on Twitter almost a year ago.
Apparently, the couple wanted to get married sometime during the IPL season. However, the plans were shelved post his arrest after the sixth season of the IPL.

Sreesanth's close friends revealed that Nayan stood by him amid the match fixing scandal and was a pillar of strength during the crisis in his life.

"She was faithful to him and did not hesitate to marry him even when severe allegations were levelled against him," says a friend of Sreesanth.

Sreesanth fell in love with Bhuveneshwari six years ago during an ODI match against Pakistan in Jaipur. It's said that Bhuveneshwari, a jewellery designer, came to him for an autograph and the cricketer was love struck at first sight.

According to Sree's close friend Junaid Arfi, "The wedding will be held in the afternoon at 2. 30 . It will be a typical Indian traditional wedding. The wedding will be followed by a reception at a hotel. Chief Minster of Gujarat Narendra Modi has confirmed his presence at the wedding. Typical Rajasthani and Malayali food will served to the guests. Sree is expected to wear a designer outfit designed by a Jaipur based designer for the wedding."

"The brides parents Hirendra Singh Shekhawat and Muktha Singh have so far have not planned any function in Jaipur. Amongst the close friends who will attend Sree's wedding will include cricketers, people from the Bollywood and South film industry," adds Arfi.
